LOCATION: Kansas City, MO.
GOOD DEEDER: Construction Futures
Artis and his 5-year-old twin daughters moved from Kansas City to Minnesota, hoping for a better life. But when they arrived, they were homeless and forced to sleep inside their car. Artis works two jobs to support his family. “I don’t worry about me, it’s them that I worry about,” he told WDAF news.
In the touching video below, Artis thinks he’s going in for “just another interview” with his twin daughters to see if he qualified for a new home, but had no idea the real reason he was there. The second he walks in, Artis is surprised with the keys to his brand-new home. This is no interview, but rather a ceremony, a surprise, and an early Christmas present. Artis was absolutely dumbfounded, and stood there with tears in his eyes.
The family is the recipient of the seventh Constructing Futures house, a project that was launched in 2008. Constructing Futures is on a mission to break the cycle of poverty by taking abandoned homes and making them livable again for homeless families in need.
Artis calls his new home a blessing, and the best Christmas in the world.
